Rocky Mountain High
Rocky Mountain National Park is one we had driven past many many times over the years, but never happened to stop by or actually enter the park. So we were very excited to finally cross it off the list!
It was a great relief to see mountains once more, and we began to realize how much elevation is correlated to our enjoyment of a park. So we already knew this park would be a 'high' on our trip!
Our first day in the park we stopped by a ranger station for some hot cocoa and information. It was awfully chilly that morning and we were on the far west side of the park so it was good to hear what hikes to go on. We had to eventually make our way across the park to go to our next camp site, so we did the scenic drive getting out to hike a ways along the Colorado River. It was lovely to be amongst the tall trees and taller peaks.
The next day we hiked to the top of Deer Mountain. It was a short but steep trail that we thoroughly enjoyed. It was great to get one more 'high' hike done before we left the mountains for good.
Another 'high' was picking up or Dad! He is joining us for our very last week on the road before we drive back to Illinois. We are very excited to have one more person to join our adventures and make some memories with! As we have said many times we love a vacation but we love vacation with others even more! So...keep that in mind and let's keep these good times rolling!
From the top of Deer Mountain (10,006'), you likely saw Longs Peak (14,256') and other of the 14ers (Colorado has 58 peaks that are higher than 14,000', some people call them the 14ers)
ReplyDeleteI wonder what your favorite part of mountanous parks is? The views, the athletic challenge, or something else?
ReplyDeleteHi. I hope you will write a whole-trip recap. Few folks take the time to make a trip like this. What did it mean for you?
